The Edom ART Lab is a nonprofit organization embracing fine arts as an entrepreneurial exercise in an after-school program for students age 9 and up. As part of the business simulator program, each participant is involved in each of the fine arts workshops, including theater, music, visual, and culinary arts. Housed in a sunny building at the corner of FM 279 and FM 314 in downtown Edom, it serves Henderson and Van Zandt county students.

The first semester programs start in January 2026. The business simulator workshop covers a semester. Edom ART Lab will have three semesters each yea: including Fall/Winter, Spring, and Summer.

The Edom ART Lab Business Simulator offers workshops that assist participants in identifying and using their gifts by working on projects in a team environment under the education, mentorship, and supervision of local professionals who help them develop their skills.

Performing Arts/Puppet Theater
Each performing arts / theater workshop focuses on a specific performance or play developed with youthful audiences in mind. Participants are involved in writing the script, creating the characters, making the puppets, as well as performing.

At the end of each semester, the workshop participants do a public performance.

Music Workshop
Each music workshop is focused on creating music and writing and performing for the puppet show.

Visual Art Workshop
Visual Arts features multiple, varied workshops for art projects each semester. Projects are selected for their marketability, priced around $25-$30.

The art made will be sold in the gallery. A special gallery event will be hosted each semester, and the gallery will be open at all performances and during special events.

Culinary Arts Workshop
Workshop participants make daily snacks for everyone at the Edom ART Lab, including themselves.

They are also involved in planning the culinary arts products to be offered for sale for the semester (such as candies, flavored nuts, taco seasonings, and/or other spice seasoning combinations, etc.) including determining the purchase requirements, pricing, and preparation.

During the growing season, participants learn gardening skills by growing herbs, fruits, and vegetables to be used for daily snacks and the products made to sell.

Participants are also responsible for snacks and drinks at all events.

Entrepreneurial Skills
Business simulator workshop participants take part in all aspects of the planning and execution of Edom ART Lab’s revenue-generating activities.

From initial project proposals through budgeting, scheduling, purchasing raw materials, production, marketing and sales, students learn all aspects of an art-based business. They also take part in the profit-and-loss analysis of these activities after the events.

Workshop participants are encouraged to think like business owners and treat the Edom ART Lab money-making activities as if they were managing their own business. When they reach or exceed their forecasted profit numbers, they receive a cash bonus for motivation and to illustrate the way entrepreneurship works.
