A collaboration between the City of Kilgore, the Longview Museum of Fine Arts, and REEL East Texas presents Rangerettes, an exhibition of photographs by O. Rufus Lovett on display through February 2026 at The Old Post Office event center in Kilgore. The 31 Kilgore Rangerettes images were taken by Lovett over a 34 year period from 1989 to 2023. The exhibition is part of the Rangerettes celebration of their 85th anniversary this year.
Lovett also has a coffee table book of his photos that released in 2008 simply titled Kilgore Rangerettes. The collections capture the essence of the world’s most famous dance drill team, bringing their iconic spirit and history to life.
Two of the photos are presented here. “Triplets,” shows Cali, Hayley, and Hillary, the first triplets to be Kilgore Rangerettes. Lovett shot the photo in 2004 at the World’s Richest Acre in Kilgore. It was first published in color on the cover of Texas Monthly that same year.
The other is Gussie Nell Davis at the Cotton Bowl Parade on a float with members of Rangerettes Forever celebrating the groups 50th anniversary in 1990.
The building is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at 224 South Kilgore Street. Call (903) 984-1333 and visit the REEL East Texas website for more information.
