Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage premieres October 17 on CBS. The Young Sheldon/Big Bang spinoff features the young couple Georgie and Mandy navigating the challenges of adulthood, parenting, and marriage while raising their young family in East Texas.
Mandy is played by Emily Osment and Georgia by Montana Jordan, an East Texas native from Ore City near Longview. Cast is also rumored to include Raegan Record as Georgie’s little sister Missy, Zoe Perry as his mom Mary, and the popular Meemaw played by Annie Potts.
Montana made his acting debut with his role as Jaden in the film The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter, which starred Josh Brolin and Danny McBride. Though Montana had no previous acting experience, his funny, outgoing personality prompted many in his small town to suggest that he respond to a local casting call for the movie and he was chosen for the role.
His parents are Kelli Pieratt Smith, a first-grade teacher, and Tony Jordan. He is the youngest of three children and has two older sisters. Montana spent most of his youth racing dirt bikes and playing for the Ore City Rebels National team. He learned to play the acoustic guitar in preparation for his role as Jaden.
His endearing role as Georgie in Young Sheldon picked up speed over the years in the series leading to the new comedy spinoff where along with Mandy they try out married life and parenthood under the roof of her parents’ home. There are issues, particularly with Georgie, who works at the family tire business.
When Mandy’s mother questions Georgie’s intelligence, he doesn’t become angry because, creator Chuck Lorre says, “he’s always been considered the dumb brother. And he encourages it because people underestimate him, and it gives him an edge.”
For Montana, there’s more than a little familiarity in his off-screen life. Like Georgie, he’s a new father and has been trying to juggle home and work.
“He’s having to grow up fast,” Montana says if his character. “He’s always been an entrepreneur, doing different things in school, like selling candy. And maybe that’s his way of trying to shine in the family.”
The Big Bang Theory taught Lorre and company, “there are different kinds of intelligence. Georgie is very much a part of that storytelling. He brings things that Sheldon can’t bring, like empathy and compassion and enthusiasm and determination and grit that can ultimately lead to success. The story of intelligence begins on Big Bang Theory but, as writers, we learned there are other ways to explore intelligence, not just the grease board with mathematics.”
